Compatibility Testing





Compatibility means adjustment in two or more than two things or scenarios. As a real life scenarios Oil is not adjustable or compatible with the water and but milk can adjust with water.

Definition of compatibility Testing:
Running the software application in different – different network environments, mobile devices, hardware, operating system etc properly without any issue or bug.
Actually Compatibility Testing comes under the category of Non-Functional Testing.

Types of Compatibility Testing:
i.                    Confirming the compatibility with Hardware Configuration
ii.                  It checks the software application is working properly on different -2 operating system / environment.
iii.                Developed Software is adjustable with other software or not i.e. M.S Excel is compatible with MS Outlook etc or not.
iv.                How many browsers are compatible with developed software?
v.                  Confirming the compatibility of software with different -2 devices.
vi.                Mobile is compatible with developed software or not.
vii.              Software version, which version is compatible and how. Version checking is also different – 2 types: a. Backward Compatibility Testing  b. Forward Compatibility Testing

Tools used for Compatibility Test:
i.                    Adobe Browser Lab – This tool used to check application on different – browsers.
ii.                  Secure Platform – This tool is used to confirm the hardware platform testing.
iii.                Virtual Desktops – This tool used to check the application on different – operating system. It checks the operating system compatibility.

Process of Compatibility Testing:
i.                    Initial Phase – Defining the environment or platforms for the required application.
ii.                  Enough knowledge or awareness about the testable application.
iii.                Now when above steps are completed then need to set up for testing with required devices, platforms and networks to confirm whether application runs properly or not.
iv.                Now finally report the bug or defect if any found, Retest when bug fix.
