In the beginning of computer world, there was no need of mouse because on that time it was Punch Card who helped in selecting or inserting a file in computer. After the punch card, it was Light Pen who took place of Punch Card, but Mouse replaced every pointing device. Because it is easy to use, occupies less area and not expensive also.

Working of Computer Mouse :

The main work of Computer Mouse is to change the movement of hand into signals, so that computer can use them. To catch these signals mouse also contains a track ball so let’s first know how a track ball works –

How a Track Ball Works :

·         Track Ball : There is a ball inside that mouse, which is known as track ball, when mouse moves the ball also moves and catches the movement. The track ball changes these movements to signals and sends to computer desktop and desktop makes pointer moves according to signals received by track ball. From Punch Card to Light Pen to Mouse

·         Rollers : Mouse also contains 2 roller as well named X ( Horizontal ) and Y ( Vertical ), both catches the direction and makes a graphical calculation. These rollers works similar to math’s Cartesian plane.

·         Shaft : A shaft connects to these rollers and rotates the disk with the help of its hole. That’s why when a roller moves; shaft follows that as well with that disk also starts rotating.

·         LED : The disk which moves in the mouse has a LED on its one side, while there is a sensor on the other side. When a light comes from LED then disk breaks that light so that the sensor can read the pulses of that light. The speed of mouse depends on these pulses, if these pulses are high then mouse moves fast.

·         Processor : In the end the mouse processor takes all the information and pulse rate from the sensor and changes into computer language. Then computer understands all the information and starts its working. So, this is how a small mouse works.
