You may found it devotion to their god, but in reality this is a rebellion against society and its story start from the tattoo of Rama Name. It is said that since 100 years ago, some high caste people of Hindus had stopped Ramanami Society to enter in the temple. Even after the protest for long time when this society does not get the permission to enter in temple then they started to make tattoo of Rama Name on the every part of their body and stopped worshiping idolatry.

Ramanami Tandon and Punayi Bai :

Ramanami Tandon, who is 76 years old, is a person of Ramanami Society and lives in a backward region Jamgahan, Chhattisgarh. He has been following this tradition from last 50 years. However, his tattoo got blurred in these 50 years but his confidence and faith is still strong.

Similarly, there is another village near Jamgahan named Goraba, where a 75 year old woman Punayi Bai also following this tradition from years. She has also made tattoos on her body. Punayi believes that No caste has their right on God, because God has created all of us and that’s why we all are equal children for god.

Modern Generation has Forgotten their Tradition :

Yes, the modern generation of Ramanami society has forgotten its tradition from several years, but let me tell you that the total population of this Ramanami Society is about 1 lakh. From which most of the people has Rama named tattoo on their body but new generation has reduces following their tradition with time. The reason behind it is that the children of this society go to other cities for their study and work and that’s why they don’t like to make tattoo on their body. Rather they write Rama name on the certain part of their body like hand, waist or foot so that their tradition never completely finished.

Other Rules of Ramanami Society :

You may have understand that this society is different from other societies and that’s why there are some other rules of this society as well which may surprise you such as – it is mandatory for every new born child in this society to make Rama name tattoo on his or her chest before turn to 2 years old and once the person has Rama name on his body then he can never consume meat and alcohol. With that it is necessary for him to speak Rama name always.

Not just this, the write Rama name on their wall, wear cloth which have Rama name printed over it and they speak Rama to call each other as well. The other special thing about this society is that they have legally registered their own laws and rules and after every 5 years their separated elections are held.

Tradition of Writing the Name of Rama on Whole Body

Let me tell you that in this society, if any person writes Rama name on a part of his body then he called Ramanami, while if he writes Rama name on his forehead then they called Shiromani and by writing Rama name on the entire forehead then he becomes Sarvang Ramanami. While those who write the name of Rama on their whole body then he called Nakhshikh Ramanami.  However, today government has given equal statue to High – Low and Poor - Rich everywhere. But this society did not get their right till now but they have still their hope.
