On the third layer microscopic pits stores the data, that’s why the scratchy disk founds problem in running.

Laser light is used to read or write data from optical drive disk, here laser means electromagnetic waves, which has some wavelength in its light. Every disk has a different wavelength and the measuring unit of these wavelengths is nanometer like the wavelength of CD is 780 nm, while the wavelength of DVD is 650 nm, the wavelength of blue – ray is 450 nm. The disk which is usable in many optical drives has many wave lengths and a photodiode as well, which catches the reflection from the light of disk.

The optical mechanism which reads the CD and DVD is same, that’s why both have the same lens but the mechanism of blue – ray is different from the others. The optical drive which works with optical drive has 2 lenses. First works for CD and DVD, while other works for Blue – ray.

If we talk about lens, then an optical drive has only one rotation mechanism to rotate the disk. Every optical drive works on CLV ( Constant Liner Velocity ), which means that the disk can run at different speed, with that the speed of disk depends on the laser beam and the area from where it reads the data. When laser reads the data at outer ring then disk rotates about 200 times, but when it rotates in inner ring then it can run 500 times in a minute. Disk doesn’t need a fix time or speed while it runs or writes the data, but it needs a constant speed when you watches movies or plays music in it. Today every optical drives comes with great speed ( almost 1000 to 2000 rotation per minute. ). Not just this optical drive needs a loading mechanism, which has 2 types.

-          Tray Loading Mechanism : In this mechanism we, drives uses a try to put the disk. A motor connect with this tray which helps it to in or out. These mechanisms are bigger than the other laptop mechanism.

-          Slot Loading Mechanism : A slot is needed to insert disk in these mechanism and motor connects this slide as well, this motor helps it to come in or out.
