According to mythological story and scriptures soul created light, light created sky, sky created air, air created fire, fire created water, water created earth and from the mixture of all these things shell was created.

While Brahmavaivratpuraan says Shell is also God like Sun and Moon, Ganga and Saraswati lives in its front part and God Varun lives at its back, while Lord Brahma lives in centre of Shell.
