What is an emulator, Definition or Introduction to J2ME Emulators

Motive → The main motive of this post is to give the instruction on how to execute the applications or games on the emulators, So this is why that the applications or game can be test for quality, So this document doesn't mean to complete the any type of other purpose another than the instructing how to execute the app only for testing the application or the game.

What is the emulator or the Definition of emulators?

In a common sense, The Emulator → Duplicate the function of one system with the another system, so that the another next system displays to behave like as it first one system. Unlike a simulation, It doesn't attempts to precisely model the state of the devices being emulated; it only attempt to reproduce its behaviors. Actually The simulator is specially Perfect and Correct emulator.

J2ME Emulator:

So the J2ME basic emulator to be use for this exercises is the Sun-Microsystem J2ME Wireless Toolkit 1.0.4_01. The emulators is installed after Java 2 SDK Std Edn. V 1.3.

The Step to execute the application are as follow:

  1. After the installations, the emulators can be simply accessed from the start menu like another programs. Before executing the app, First Select the 'default device selectiion' and select a devices from the drop down box.

Note: Device is present in the WTK (Wireless Tool Kit) folders. These Folders are usually named as the WTK104 unless the changed in the path that it was installed to. The device is present in the folder named 'devices' inside the folders 'wtklib'. For an examples → C:\WTK104\wtklib\devices.

  1. So Next one Step is to give a path to the applications. Select the 'Run MIDP application' from the start menu in the name that the WTK has been installed to. The way or path to the applications .JAD is given. JAD stands for JAVA APPLICATION DESCRIPTOR

Note: Need to confirm or take care that the path is not the too much long; the emulators doesn't work with the long path.

Example: The emulators are installed with the name of 'J2ME WirelessToolKit1.4.4_01'. This is the way:

Followed by:

Click on start → Select” J2ME Wireless ToolKit 1.0.4_01” → Select “default device selection” -> Select a device from the drop down box and click “ok” → Select start → Select” J2ME Wireless ToolKit 1.0.4_01” → Select “Run MIDP application” → Provide the path to the .JAD file → and click on start.
