Types of Optical Drives :

Optical Drive has many types, some of them works with CD and can save the data upto 700 MB, and these are known as CD – ROM. Where some optical drives used for DVD and saves data upto 4700 to 8500, these are known as DVD – ROM. Another thing to note is that CD drive can’t play the DVD, but DVD drive can play CD as well.

·         CD – ROM Drive : These drives are not expensive and reads only CD – ROM. The biggest drawback of these drives it that they can’t read or write DVD’s video and audio. That’s why they are losing their place from market.

·         CD – RW : They are known as CD Writer, CD – Burner and CD – Recorder as well. They also work with CD – ROM, but they can’t write data. ·         DVD – ROM / CD – RW : Actually these drives are the combination of DVD – ROM and CD – ROM, and can read every disk, but they can only write the data. In their days these drives were very popular.

·         DVD Writer : DVD Writer can do anything which a DVD – ROM or CD – ROM can’t do, means it can read write or replace the data as well. Their working ability makes them the best drive so far, but they are little expensive than the others as well.

·         Interface : DVD Writer and Burner uses ATA / ATAPI model to connect with computer, but SATA models are the best to connect with computer. That’s why today every computer with SATA Cable optical drives.
